We are working with Campbelltown City Council, the University of Sydney and Habitat Innovation and Management to investigate artificial and supplementary hollows for Gang-gang Cockatoos and other hollow nesting birds.
Our Hons student Liam Doherty was very surprised to see this Koala checking out the supplementary hollow on their way up the tree.

This up-close view of a Gang-gang Cockatoo (Callocephalon fimbriatum) was captured in February 2024 in the Blue Mountains town of Wentworth Falls (NSW, Australia). It was an overcast summer evening punctuated by thunder. Around five Gang-gang Cockatoos were in the area, flying between large pine trees and calling. At this point the best we could hope for was a distant shot amongst foliage. But ...

      Yes, sometimes they do a tail waggle that arguably draws a figure of eight in the air. Not sure why this is obvious on occasion but less so on others. We made made sure that some footage that has that waggle. So endearing!

    I like the permanent resting bitch face they have when they look at you and I love that so much! No, go away. I just started watching videos about this raven and laughing so much but it seems like it could be pretty annoying at times like trying to get a nap or sleep late and this is going on or trying to focus on a phone call and this shit starts up next to you. its funny but im betting it can be so annoyed to they sound like children trying to distract a busy adult with really obnoxious noise at the wrong time and its working thats what it sounds like exactly actually. I think the raven only has one job and that is trolling everyone and these guys are too. Its so goofy like that kid who had a super rough time when their voice cracked in high school and was really bad and never seemed to go away thats kind of like that poor thing cant hit a proper note for its life my gosh man it got the short end of the stick for song birds thats cringe worthy bird song right there something broke and God forgot to fix it or something. Its like your friend who swears they can sing and insists on it in the most embarrassing places possible cause they swear they can end up pissing off everyone there and you have to act like you never met them? Thats this bird.

    Waterways should integrate wildlife corridors and connect them to all urban designed green spaces, these should be designed far in advance of urban sprawl development and should form the foundation for urban design. It’s not real hard, this a problem our policy makers have created for us.

  • @jasonbates2977
    @jasonbates2977 Месяц назад

    Honey Bees are actually mainly used for pollination in Australian Agriculture, with a huge amount of our food supply only being able to be pollinated by honey bees exclusively. Without them a lot of the food we eat would not be available and would not be in as high numbers, meaning less food available for us humans. Honey production is is actually more often than not a byproduct of the pollination service they provide to the agricultural industry. I think it’s important to highlight that if we want to provide food for everyone in this world and as Australians want to stop complaining about high grocery prices, we should never forget the importance of Honey Bees. Australia has been free of the Varroa Destructor mite up until last year or so and up until then, was the last continent free from the mite. It took only 3 years for the mite eradicate all feral honey bee colonies, after its incursion into New Zealand and I suspect it will take less then a decade throughout most Australia now that is here!! It won’t be in the too distant future where Honey Bees won’t a concern for our native wildlife.

    We have many of these in our area.. they walk along the water's edge on our pebbly-rocky shore. Despite the fact that the shoreline is absolutely loaded with oysters they don't seem to spend any time on them. Instead they dart their beaks into the pebbly substrate every 5 seconds or so, either just in the shallows or just outside the water-line. My impression is that they are eating crabs and other small creatures. They do not stop in one place.. just move along, foraging as they go.
